    Nantes to New Orleans: Le Beaumont, 1785



    Le Beaumont Embarkation: 11 June 1785, Nantes Debarkation: 19 August 1785, New Orleans "A medium-sized frigate the 'Le Beaumont' [180 tons] of late construction and speedy. Captain Daniel crossed the Atlantic in record time, 70 days. Though there were no births, there was some sickness and 2 deaths aboard ship. The group of 41 families chose Baton Rouge, 5 families went to Atacapas (St. Martinville) and 3 families to La Fourche (area around Plattenville). The group lost 6 more members: 4 by death and 2 by desertion, but acquired 7 new additions: 1 birth, 3 new adherents and 3 marriages." (Oscar Winzerling, "Acadian Odyssey," quoted in Donald J.
